![]() Need Puppet Scripts?
These puppet scripts with song lyrics and music score are available in pdf format.
Simple arrangements of the music can be downloaded as mp3 files. You may make as many copies of the scripts as needed providing performances are free of charge. If you do use the scripts and/or music, it would be appreciated if you could drop a short note to Scruffy Plume to let us know how and when the play was used.
Passing By
The first of our scripts is a puppet play within a puppet play and retells the story of The Good Samaritan. It is set in a classroom with 5 main characters (teacher, 3 students, elderly gentleman). One of the characters presents the original Bible story using his own cardboard cutout puppets, while the class of students live out a modern day version of the story. It could be helpful to have a two level stage for this play, but creative staging can find other solutions to the play within a play.
There is one song to be performed, but the story can be presented without it if necessary. Read beginning of script Get Script pdf File Get Song: Passing By(mp3)
The Dandhan Series
This series of plays is set in Dandhland, an imaginary land where strange animal-like characters live in high rise cattails in the pond of Rastamine. Their neighbours, the Munghans live in sprawling rock pile homes along the banks.
Some pictures are added to give an idea of the original characters. The stories, however, will work with other animal or people puppets.
The Invitation
This story is based on Matthew 7:7 (NIV)
Ask and it will be given to you; Seek and you will find; Knock and the door will be opened to you. The main character in this story is Ime (pronounced with long i and mee)- a two headed creature who represents two sides of a personality. The mental tug of war starts when a mysterious invitation arrives at the door. The other characters are the Munghadew (a bee-like insect), a bird messenger and 2 singing messengers (any type of animal puppets). The original Ime was run by
2 puppeteers. The arms were long "gloves", not attached to the puppet. An Ime could simply be 2 identical puppets attached at the body with the extra arms hidden behind. ![]()

G.E.M.s
![]()
This 11 minute mini play takes place in Toby’s and Wanda’s house. The staging is simple to prepare. A mirror is attached to the side of the theatre and a small treasure chest is visible behind the puppets. The chest is full of colourful “gems”.
2 characters are needed: Wanda: - about 6-7 years old Toby: - older brother about 12 -14 Both puppets should have distinctive short, round noses. Wanda is not happy. She has just had a really bad time at soccer practice and gets down on herself for everything she believes is wrong with her. Toby finds her and talks to her about why she is upset. He gets her to focus on the good things she can do and reminds her that God made her just the way she is. He goes to the chest and shows her the gems inside that represent G.E.M.S (God’s Extra-special MeS). They are all the same size because even though we all look different and have different abilities, God sees us all as equal. We are all precious G.E.M.S to Him. Also available is the recording of the entire play including music. Read beginning of script Get Script pdf File Get Song and/or play recording: I'm a GEM(mp3)
Yo-yo G.E.M.
![]()
Wanda, in the second of the G.E.M.s series, finds herself far from home at the other side of the pond. Because Mother is very ill, Wanda is sent away to stay with the fanged Munghan, Berthamungha. Having heard stories about Munghans eating gentle Dandhans, she is very upset and her fear grows when she finds a chest hidden in the basement. Is it full of bones?
Through an encouraging letter from her brother Toby and Bertha's treasure chest full of Yo-yo G.E.M.s, Wanda learns that through the ups and downs of life God is always there. The Yo-yo G.E.M. (God Encourages Me) Reminders can be given out to the audience at the end of the play. Read beginning of script Get Script pdf File Get Song and/or play recording: I'm a GEM(mp3)

Needs G.E.M.
![]()
Wanda is annoyed that she is not allowed to get a big sports bag like the one her brother Toby has for his hockey equipment. Her ranting is interrupted by a deep voice seemingly coming out of thin air. Quickly, she discovers that it is actually the sports bag who is talking. He helps Wanda to understand that she really doesn't need a bag for sports equipment, but perhaps the music case that she already has is perfect for her.
Best of all, Toby has left her a surprise G.E.M. to remind her that God provides for our needs. Read beginning of script
