Play Scripts and Stories for French as a Second Language

FSL French Fairy Tales
fromTapsy Tales

Fsl French fairy tales are presented here because familiar stories have always been a favourite source of reading material for students learning a new language. Fairy tales constitute a universal language across many cultures. Young children respond to them, incorporate them into their play and make them the basis of dreams which expand their imaginative lives beyond their limited experience.

When the storyline, setting and characters are already known to the students, learning new vocabulary set within familiar structures is much easier.

How Easy?
Finding text that is simple enough for early learners is sometimes difficult. The versions presented here were written especially for students in the beginning stages of learning French as a second language.

Three fsl conte styles are available. One has text only with numbered lines, the second is a sketchbook style with one or two sentences on each page. This allows the students to show their comprehension through illustration. Students enjoy this method of responding to the story and teachers can quickly determine the student's understanding of the text.

One of our favourite French activities is performing French plays. Therefore, Play script versions of the stories are also available. The opening scenes are provided in pdf format.
